Moore County Child Killed After Being Struck By Car

Posted Updated

CARTHAGE, N.C. — Authorities say a 2-1/2-year-old boy was killed Monday morning at his baby sitter's home.

Authorities say the incident occurred at 8:30 a.m. at 3649 Union Church Road in Carthage.

Authorities say the baby sitter, 51-year-old Lawana Jones of Carthage, left George Bampton Little in the home with her two daughters while she went outside to crank the car. Authorities say Jones was preparing to take Little somewhere.

Authorities say Jones did not know Little had gotten out of the house and was behind her station wagon. Authorities say Little was struck when she backed the car out of the driveway.

Authorities say Little was transported to Moore Regional, where he was pronounced dead.

So far, no charges have been filed. The Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.

Authorities said the boy's grandfather is George Little, who announced last month that he would seek the Republican nomination for governor.
