City Picks Up Water Tab For Some Raleigh Residents

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — The city of Raleigh will foot the bill for clean water at homes near the wastewater treatment plant.

The plant was fined last year for overspraying waste on surrounding crop fields.

Tests turned up toxins in wells near the plant. Crews built a line to pump city water to the affected homes.

The council voted Tuesday to give homeowners free connections and free water for 20 years.

City leaders say it was the right thing to do after they learned about problems at the plant.
