Woman Struck By Oncoming Vehicle Following Nash County Wreck

Posted Updated

NASH COUNTY, N.C. — Thursday's rain made for dangerous road conditions in Nash County.

Emergency Management officials say a driver of a van lost control, hitting the guardrail along westbound U.S. 64, just west of Highway 231 Thursday afternoon.

Officials said Sandy Parrish had gotten out of her van following the wreck and walked towards the rear of the vehicle. The driver of an 18-wheeler stopped to help her and was directing traffic to the far lane.

An oncoming car did not see the truck driver directing traffic and hit Parrish, tossing her about 50 feet and severing her leg. She is listed in critical condition at Wake Med.

The driver of the car who hit the van driver and a passenger were taken to Nash General Hospital. Their injuries are not considered serious. The driver was charged with careless and wreckless driving.
