RALEIGH, N.C. — The Wake County District Attorney's Office and the State Bureau of Investigation are investigating the death of a patient at Dorothea Dix Hospital.
The district attorney says the patient had been assaulted in the weeks prior to the death.
Officials say the victim died this weekend and an autopsy is under way.
A hospital representative says she is confident the cause of death will be ruled natural causes.
