Orange County Commissioners To Ponder School System Merger

Posted Updated

ORANGE COUNTY, N.C. — Orange County Commissioners say they need more time to study the implications of a merger between Orange County and Chapel Hill-Carrboro schools.

The board wants to get input from school officials and the public over the next five months before making a final decision. It also wants feedback from other school systems that have attempted mergers.

The commissioners hope to have a report ready by August. They plan to make a decision about whether or not to pursue the merger by fall.

The merger idea reportedly was raised by Commissioner Moses Carey during the board's annual planning retreat in January.
