<b>CHATHAM COUNTY, N.C.</b> — An elderly man died Monday after losing control of his car and crashing into a house in Chatham County.

Witnesses said the man ran off the road and slammed into the house on Pleasant Hill Church Road. The car burst into flames and the house caught fire, but firefighters put the flames out quickly.

According to the Sampson County Sheriff's Office, a school resource officer discovered the body of a man inside a vehicle at Hobbton Middle School athletic field. Authorities believe the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
