Low Temperatures Put Strain On Home Heating Bills

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Like most people across the state, you are probably dreading your next heating bill. The recent cold snap that has hit the area can put a strain on your budget.

The state says requests for utility assistance are higher than ever. In all, Wake County helps more than 4,000 people with their utility bills. Many of the clients are newcomers who have lost their jobs.

The county nearly ran out of money for the program late last month. A grant from Progress Energy is keeping the heat on for many Wake County residents until more money comes in.
