Durham Authorities Continue Search For Juvenile Escapee

Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — Authorities are still looking for a teenager who escaped from a Durham youth home Monday afternoon.

Authorities say two state juvenile justice workers were bringing the 15-year-old juvenile back from court to the youth home, located on Broad Street, when he broke free and ran away on foot.

Authorities say the juvenile, a black male, was wearing a gray T-shirt, blue jeans, Timberland boots, handcuffs and a leg shackle.

Because of his age, authorities say his name and picture cannot be released. Authorities say the juvenile was in the youth home for violating probation on a simple assault charge.

The incident occurred at the same facility where three juveniles overpowered a counselor back in November and got away. They were on the run for more than 24 hours, before being recaptured.

County officials immediately implemented changes at the home, which included adding a guard and conducting more security checks.
