RALEIGH, N.C. — The new, Republican-led Wake County Commission may do away with the half-cent sales tax increase.
Republican commissioners claim raising taxes goes against their philosophy. The tax was implemented on Dec. 1. By the end of June, it is supposed to add nearly $18 million to Wake County coffers.
New board members said they will leave it alone for now, but they want to study how the county does without the revenue in their new budget beginning July 1.
