Teen Accused Of Attempted Rape Injured In Jail Attack

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh police have said that four teenage inmates recently jumped another one in the recreation area of the Wake County jail, sending him to the hospital, because they thought his crime smeared their high school's good name.

Donelle Stanford, 17, is charged with felony assault after the fight that occurred on Nov. 15.

Investigators said that Stanford and three other teenage inmates attacked 16-year-old Ronnie Kimball, breaking his jaw.

Kimball is charged with the attempted rape of a 9-year-old girl. He is a football player at Wake Forest-Rolesville High School.

Jail officials said they don't know for certain what precipitated the beating. But they acknowledged that the teens felt Kimball's crime embarrassed their old school.

Kimball had surgery to repair his jaw. He is out on bond awaiting his next court date. Investigators hope to charge three more inmates in this attack in the coming week.
