Fayetteville Woman Hit By Rental Truck Along I-40 In Durham County

DURHAM COUNTY, N.C. — A Fayetteville woman was seriously injured when she was struck by a truck on Interstate 40 near the Miami Boulevard exit early Friday.
Tricia D. Gerke, 22, of Fayetteville was walking in the eastbound travel lane around 3:30 a.m. when she was struck by a 1999 Isuzu Ryder truck driven by Larry W. Herman, 42, of Lincolnton.
Gerke was taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment of pelvic, spinal and leg injuries. Investigators do not know why Gerke was in the travel lane.
The accident slowed traffic for more than two hours. No charges have been filed.
