Five Cumberland Students Diagnosed With Shigellosis

Posted Updated

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. — Five Cumberland County students are the latest victims of a

shigellosis

outbreak.

The students go to school at Rockfish Elementary School, but they will be out of class until the county health department officials say it is OK to return.

Seven people in Hoke County came down with the illness last week.

Shigellosis symptoms include diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps. You can protect yourself and your children by washing your hands after going to the bathroom. The illness can be treated with antibiotics.
