Train Derails In Chatham County

SILER CITY, N.C. — Officials say a freight train derailed in Chatham County Tuesday morning, but no one was injured.

Eight cars of a Norfolk Southern train derailed shortly before 6 a.m. about five miles south of Siler City. It occurred near the intersection of old U.S. 421 and Mount Vernon Springs Road near the community of Bonlee. The train was loaded with coal.

Authorities say there are no injuries, but Mount Vernon Springs Road is blocked to traffic.
