DOT To Close Exits, Ramps Along I-85 In Durham County

DURHAM, N.C. — The N.C. Department of Transportation will permanently close Exit 176A (Gregson Street) on Interstate 85 South and temporarily close the ramps accessing I-85 North and South from southbound Duke Street in Durham. The closings will begin at about 7 a.m. on Saturday, August 10.

The DOT has installed two temporary traffic signals to direct motorists through the following signed detour routes:

  • To access Gregson Street from I-85 South:Take Exit 176B (Duke Street), make a left onto southbound Duke Street at the temporary traffic signal, and follow to Gregson Street.
  • To access I-85 South from southbound Duke Street:Travel southbound on Duke Street to the temporary traffic signal south of Ruby Street, and make a left onto the I-85 South access ramp.
  • To access I-85 North from southbound Duke Street:Travel southbound on Duke Street to the temporary traffic signal near Gregson Street, and make a left onto the I-85 North access ramp.

    The DOT said the closings are necessary to continue improving I-85.
