Fayetteville Police Search For Suspect In Subway Robbery, Shooting

Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE, NC — A 75-year-old Fayetteville man is in critical condition after being hit in the head with a gun Wednesday night.

Fayetteville Police think a 17-year-old attacked Marvin Wells outside the Subway in Cliffdale Plaza.

Police say two men walked into the restaurant around 10 p.m. and robbed the place. Investigators say Michael Ruffin, 17, went out the restaurant's back door and ran into Wells in the parking lot.

According to Fayetteville Police Sgt. Alex Thompson, Wells partially owns a real estate school in the complex and was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"The suspect ran into him, pistol whipped him, took a bag from him, as well, and left him there injured on the scene and then ran off," Thompson says.

Police captured Ruffin at a nearby subdivision a short time later and have charged him with assault with a deadly weapon. They are still searching for the second suspect.

No one inside the restaurant was hurt.
