SANFORD, N.C. — Financial struggles have forced a Lee County animal shelter to stop accepting pets.
The dogs and cats already at the
San-Lee Humane Society
will stay until they are adopted.
The humane society will continue its spay and neuter program and plans to reopen the shelter in a year after volunteers raise money through donations.
The agency lost its funding from the county several months ago when it became a no-kill shelter.
