CHATHAM COUNTY, N.C. — Authorities in Chatham County are investigating a drowning at Jordan Lake.
Authorities received the call around 8 p.m. Thursday.
The Sheriff's Office said three men had taken a boat out to a small island in the lake created by low water levels. The boat drifted off and the victim tried to retrieve it, but went under, officials said.
A passing boater brought the two other to men back to shore. They said they looked for the victim and called 911.
After a two-hour search by the park service, sheriff's office and several other emergency response agencies, the body of Richard Brantley Mann, 41, of Moncure, was recovered around 10 p.m.
