Authorities Recover Stolen Humvee

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Authorities have recovered a Humvee that was taken from a National Guard Armory in Northampton County.

The National Guard Humvee was found about 12:30 p.m. Monday by a DMV officer in Bertie County. Authorities said it was found in an area that is known for recovery of stolen vehicles.

When authorities found the vehicle, it was missing about three-fourths of a tank of gas. Authorities do not have any suspects at this time.

Police said the theft occurred sometime early Friday morning. They also said thieves broke through a chain-link fence and chain on the vehicle.

Police said they think pranksters are behind the theft. They also said that they do not think the missing vehicle posed any threat since there were no weapons in it.
