Wake Student Athletes May Soon Spend More Time Outside Class

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Wake County student athletes may soon be spending more time out of the classroom.

School administrators are recommending that class requirements be lowered to be more in line with other counties.

Right now, Wake County middle and high school athletes have to be in class 94 percent of the time to be eligible to play sports. Other counties require 85 percent attendance.

School officials claim the proposed change will not lower academic standards.
