<b>RALEIGH, N.C.</b> — One of the dogs stolen from a local animal shelter and used in a dogfighting ring has died.

Authorities found Dexter and Lucky a few weeks ago. They were badly injured days after being taken from the animal shelter.

Veterinarians said they had been used in a dog fight. During the fight, Dexter was apparently infected with an incurable parasite and had to be euthanized.

Andre Darden faces animal cruelty and theft charges in the case.
