Harnett County Deputy Faces Charges For Allegedly Attacking Suspect

Posted Updated

DUNN, N.C. — A former Harnett County deputy faces charges for allegedly attacking a suspect.

In a video, former deputy Johnny Sanders is seen kicking a handcuffed suspect who was arrested after a chase. He resigned in June, but said at the time it had nothing to do with the internal investigation launched by Sheriff Larry Knott.

The district attorney has charged Sanders with one count of assault for the traffic stop.

The former deputy also faces another charge for pointing a gun at a driver who turned his car around near Sanders' house.

Sanders is scheduled to be in court in June.
