Stray Dog in Fayetteville Tests Positive For Rabies

Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Animal owners in Cumberland County are on alert after a stray dog tested positives for rabies.

A resident in the Eastover neighborhood noticed the dog in her yard Wednesday night and called Cumberland County Animal Control.

Neighbors also spotted two strays with the rabid dog.

On Thursday, animal control officers started warning homeowners and reminded them to get their pets vaccinated.

Pet owners whose pets do not have a current rabies vaccination face a $100 fine.

This case is the second of rabies in the county this year.

The other strays were captured by animal control and all three were euthanized.
