Triangle Hopes To Hit A Home Run As Home Of USA Baseball

Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — The Triangle is looking to hit a home run with

USA Baseball

, the governing board of amateur baseball.

The group is thinking about moving its headquarters, and one location it is considering is the Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham.

Officials with USA Baseball said they like the idea that two minor league teams, the Durham Bulls and Carolina Mudcats, as well as three collegiate teams are based in the area.

If Durham is chosen, the entire Triangle stands to win big.

"It would be the training location for our Olympic teams, our Pan Am teams, our national teams," said Jack Kelly of USA Baseball."It would become the center for baseball in the U.S."

The move could have an annual economic impact of $10 million.

USA Baseball is also considering locations in Florida, Georgia and Maryland. A decision on a location is expected by June 1.
