Authorities: Man Accused Of Peeping In Dorms Visited Campuses Statewide

Posted Updated

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The man accused of being a peeping tom at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill may have been to other campuses across the state.

Chapel Hill police arrested John Thomas Witt on secret peeping charges. When investigators searched his home in Person County, they found evidence suggesting he made tapes of young women in various states of undress at Wake Forest University and N.C. State.

"They were upset about it. However, we do have some good strong victims that are going to assist us with this, so it's going to work out real well when it comes to court," Sgt. Jon Barnwell of the N.C. State Crime Prevention Unit.

Court documents indicate Witt is trying to block the use of the items seized in the search of his home. He claims officers had a warrant to search the house he lived in, not the business in the back where they found their evidence.
