ALE Officers Bust Major Moonshine Operation

Posted Updated

FOUR OAKS, N.C. — Some old-fashioned police work led Alcohol and Law Enforcement agents to a sophisticated still Friday in Johnston County.

ALE agents said the operation probably cost close to $10,000 to get started. They found enough mash to create more than 100 gallons of moonshine.

Agents said they were in the neighborhood to ask residents about another still, when they got a whiff of Johnny Allen's home and knew something was up.

Allen, 50, of Four Oaks, faces two misdemeanor charges for the non-tax paid liquor. Agents will also destroy his operation.
