Authorities Identify Body Found In Southwest Raleigh Creek

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Authorities have identified a body found at a creek in the southwest part of town Tuesday morning.

Police said two city workers found the partially-decomposed body of Elizabeth Voigt at the edge of the creek off Farmgate Road, near the Cary line, around 11:30 a.m.

Voigt, a former nurse at WakeMed, was last seen at 1:45 p.m. Nov. 20 at the State Employees Credit Union on Hillsborough Street in Raleigh.

Police had been dealing with Voigt's disappearance as a missing person case, posting fliers with her picture in Cary and Raleigh.

Lieutenant Chris Morgan of the Raleigh Police Departmentsaid it appears Voigt's body had been in the water for some time.

The medical examiner's preliminary autopsy shows that Voigt did not die of natural causes. Police said it could be a month before they get test results that show the exact cause of death. Police are calling Voigt's death suspicious.

Police said they have begun re-interviewing Voight's family and friends for any possible leads.
