Johnston DA Asks SBI To Reopen Terence Garner Investigation

Posted Updated

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — A new investigation could help determine whether a Goldsboro man remains free or goes back on trial.

The Johnston County district attorney is asking the State Bureau of Investigation to reopen the Terence Garner case.

Garner was released from prison on Feb. 5 after serving five years for robbery and attempted murder.

Another man confessed to the crime, but then recanted his confession.

Alice Wise, who was shot in the 1997 crime, maintains that Garner was the gunman.

A coalition supporting Garner says he should be fully exonerated.
