ESA Development Could Include Shops, Hotel

RALEIGH, N.C. — If developers have their way, the undeveloped land around Raleigh's Entertainment and Sports Arena will not stay that way.

The 168 acres of farmland could be replaced by offices, shops, 650 apartments and a 300-room luxury hotel.

Colonial Properties Trust said that some of the buildings would be 10 to 14 stories tall.

A public hearing is set for May 21.

The Raleigh City Council could make a decision as early as June.
