UNC Researchers Claim Fewer Kids Getting Hurt At Playground

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Researchers at UNC say fewer kids are getting hurt on the playground.

Between 1997 and 1999, the number of playground injuries at day cares dropped 22 percent.

Experts credited state regulations, which require equipment to be separated by at least 6 feet and soft surfaces placed underneath.

Experts also said some equipment still needs be fitted with protective sleeves to reduce the chance of pinching or crushing.
