Raleigh Mayor, City Council At Odds Over Outer Loop Project

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Raleigh City Council is facing a showdown over the Outer Loop.

Kieran Shanahan accused Mayor Charles Meeker of lobbying the state Department of Transportation to hold off on portions of the project.

Shanahan introduced a resolution Tuesday that states the city is behind the Outer Loop on Interstate 540 and requires Meeker to consult the city council before talking to the DOT about the loop.

Meeker denies that he is doing anything to slow down the loop.
