Suspect In Fayetteville Pipe Bomb Case Worked Airport Security

Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — One of the men charged with leaving a pipe bomb at Fayetteville Technical Community College recently worked in airport security.

ATF agent Joe Lenczyk said Russell Powell worked at Piedmont-Triad Airport in Greensboro. Lenczyk said there is a link between his job there and how he learned to make the explosive.

Powell is jailed in Hoke County. A warrant has been issued for a second suspect, Demetrius Stewart.

The two men are also suspects in the pipe bomb found in a storage facility off Raeford Road.
