Despite Snowfall, U.S. Postal Service Keeps The Mail Moving

Posted Updated

BENSON, N.C. — At ZIP code 27504, the people at the Benson post office know each other and the mail has pretty much gotten through, but there are people dropping in to buy stamps, check on their post office boxes, or to just see what's going on around town.

Paul Hayes popped in to buy his stamps for the new year and to let them know he was proud of his letter carrier.

"As bad as it was yesterday, those boys was right on time," he said.

Earl Kinsey checked on his mom in the storm and he, too, was impressed with the local delivery.

"She got her Social Security check yesterday on time and there was a piece in the mail today and it was on time," he said.

Some people in town did not get their mail Thursday, but they seemed to be understanding.

"I'm in the town limits. It got real messy yesterday and I can understand they couldn't make it, so I decided it's thawed out pretty good so far today, so I decided to bring mail out here," resident Joseph Smith said.

In one of those funny twists of life, the U.S. Postal Service is getting ready to issue its newest stamp -- winter sports.
