Authorities Arrest Man Who Allegedly Assaulted Sheriff's Deputy

WAKE COUNTY, N.C. — A man is in the Wake County Jail after he allegedly assaulted a sheriff's deputy Friday afternoon.

Tony Gladden, 45, was pulled over by Deputy Mark Adams Friday afternoon during a traffic stop. When Adams discovered there was a warrant out for Gladden, he handcuffed Gladden and put him into his patrol car.

Somehow, Gladden found a way to get into the driver's seat of the patrol car and tried to escape. When Adams attempted to stop him, Gladden drove off, dragging Adams 300 yards down a Holly Springs street.

Gladden eventually jumped out of the car and fled into a wooded area. Investigators found him Saturday at a trailer belonging to his girlfriend's parents in Broadway.

As the officers approached the trailer, the suspect took off. A chase ensued and dogs were called in. Gladden was finally located under a shed.

Gladden is being held on a $500,000 bond. Adams is still recovering from his injuries.
