Walnuts Can Be Healthy For Your Heart

RALEIGH, N.C. — A handful of walnuts is heart smart.

A new study finds that walnuts contain compounds which may prevent cholesterol in your body from oxidizing.

Researchers have found that oxidized cholesterol can stick to artery walls and lead to heart blockages or strokes, but they warn that walnuts and other nuts are high in calories.

Experts say you should only eat a few, and preferably before meals. The fats in nuts can actually help you absorb nutrients better.
