Posted Updated

MAXTON — The Robeson County Health Department said that three more cases of

E. coli

have been confirmed in connection with an outbreak at a Maxton elementary school.

A total of 14 cases are now linked to

Prospect Elementary School

Officials said that 13 of those cases involve children; two of those children did not attend the school. Three children remain hospitalized.

Over 50 individuals had shown symptoms, prompting the need for the tests.

The school reopened Thursday after it was disinfected.

Health officials said that the bacteria came from food brought to the school for a Thanksgiving celebration.
