Posted Updated

DURHAM — Two Duke University students were arrested on drug charges Tuesday after members of the Street Crime Unit of the Durham Police Department's Special Operations Division executed a search warrant in a dormitory room.

Evan Mathew Beard and Levi Stephen Karnehm, both of 318 Canterbury Hall, GG2, were both charged with possession of a precursor to manufacture, sell or deliver a controlled substance.

Officers received a tip several weeks ago that the students allegedly had ordered chemicals needed to manufacture the drug Ecstasy, police said. When officers served the search warrant Tuesday, they found several chemicals in the dormitory room.

Bond for Beard was set at $2,000 and bond for Karnehm was set at $4,000.
