Officials Believe Fires In Cumberland County Intentionally Set

Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE — Fayetteville and Cumberland County authorities are concerned that fires that appear to be intentionally set could not happen at a worse time.

Just after 11 p.m. Thursday, authorities responded to a fire at the back of the Wayside Furniture Warehouse on Murchison Road in Fayetteville.

Firefighters said that there was some structural damage to the back of the building.

There were also several small fires in the county.

Investigators believe that one person may be responsible for all of Thursday night's fires.

They are especially concerned that because of the dry weather, any fire could spread quickly.

A burning ban has been in place since late October throughout North Carolina, and forecasters say there's no rain in the forecast for the next seven days.
