Easley Targets People Who Possess, Make Fake IDs

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — It is already illegal to use a fake ID to buy alcohol in North Carolina. Now, simply having one will be against the law.

Governor Easley signed the fake ID bill into law Wednesday. The new measure makes it illegal to use a fake ID to enter a place that sells alcohol.

The law also targets people who possess or make fake IDs.

"The reason behind this is that we are finding that with some of the modern technology nowadays on our campuses, we have people that can make these fake IDs up by the hundreds with a picture," Easley said.

The bill will also create a program that allows stores to check DMV records to see whether an ID is valid.
