North Carolina will get $41.5 million
from the settlement for consumer protection and education about tire care.
"People on our highways will be safer because of this settlement," said state attorney general Roy Cooper. "Bridgestone/Firestone has done the right thing by resolving this matter."
Bridgestone/Firestone will also reimburse the state for attorneys' fees. As part of the settlement, the tire maker did not have to admit fault for faulty tires.
