CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. — A new thrift shop for parents and their children opened Monday on Bragg Boulevard in Cumberland County.
'Room To Grow' is located inside The Care Shop, which provides groceries to WIC clients. In a unique concept, parents are treated like customers. Instead of getting a clothing handout, they come in and choose an outfit for their children.
"We have heard from women who have been there say that it's demoralizing to ask for help. Folks want a hand-up not a handout. Our goal is to operate with a respect and dignity framework," Rachel Perry of Room To Grow.
Room To Grow is supported by the Junior League of Fayetteville and sponsored by The Friday Fellows, a group of young North Carolina leaders dedicated to improving human relations across the state.
