Six people injured in shooting outside a Sanford bar, two arrested

Six people were injured in a shooting that happened outside of a Sanford bar on Trade Street early Saturday morning. Two men were arrested.

Around 2 a.m., officers with the Sanford Police Department responded to a report of shots being fired outside Schooly’s Bar and Billiards.

Officers determined an argument that started outside the bar resulted in gunfire being exchanged between several people. Six people were shot. 

Four were transported to Central Carolina Hospital for medical attention for non-life-threatening injuries, two of whom are the suspects involved.

Two other victims were transported to UNC Hospitals for additional medical treatment. All six are expected to be okay.

WRAL spoke with a neighbor who woke up when he heard the gunfire. 

"I just woke up and I saw people running around and I heard sirens going," said Brayan Galdanez. "I’ve never actually lived a live event like this. It’s scary. It’s pretty scary.”

The owner of a nearby a car repair shop said he found a bullet hole in one of the cars at his shop.

"It is kind of scary because between the businesses, there's also residentials," Joe Urrutia said. "And you know, a lost bullet could kill somebody."

Urbano Garcia-Sanchez and Sean Matthews Jr., both 26 years old, were arrested and are being held at the Lee County Jail.

Garcia-Sanchez was charged with possession of a firearm. He is being held under a $100,000 bond.

Matthews was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, discharging a weapon into an occupied property and possession of a firearm. He is being held under no bond.

Sanford police said this is an ongoing investigation and additional arrests are expected.
