Shots fired in Wake Forest as people run from police officer, no one in custody

 

Shots were fired in a Wake Forest community late Wednesday night.

Authorities said several officers were called to the New Hope Village, near Wait Avenue and N. Allen Road, after an encounter with police led to shots being fired.

The incident started around 7 p.m. when a Wake Forest police officer attempted to approach a person. Two people ran from the officer, and gunshots were heard shortly after, according to police.

Police officers chased the person around the area with K9 officers and other law enforcement agencies. A gun was also found in the area.

WRAL News is working to learn if anyone was taken into custody.
