Threat made against Research Triangle Charter Academy for 3rd time this week

Officers responded to a threat at Research Triangle Charter Academy for the third time this week on Thursday.

The school was briefly placed on lockdown. Durham police said officers searched the campus around 12:30 p.m. and students were released. 

Durham police said there were "no suspicious occurrences."

"While police have shared with us that they deemed today’s threat not credible, we always err on the side of caution and implemented a secure perimeter," a school spokesperson said.

Thursday's event happened after similar threats on Monday and Tuesday at the school on Ellis Road. Students had to leave school early each time as investigators combed through the campus.

The academy closed early on Monday after police searched the campus in light of a reported bomb threat. There were no signs of a legitimate threat.

Then on Tuesday, students left campus around 2 p.m. as officers looked for suspicious activity. Police found no evidence of anything dangerous.

There were no injuries reported in all the instances.
