'He hit me with a brick': 911 transcript reveals Raleigh teacher's last words before her death

Raleigh police released the transcript of a 911 phone call of a woman who they said was killed last weekend in her home.

Zoe Welsh’s call came at 6:32 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3 at her home on Clay Street near St. Marys Street, according to the Raleigh Police Department.

“A man just broke in through the window,” Welsh told a 911 dispatcher. “He is a homeless man. I have seen him in the park at Fred Fletcher.”

Welsh told 911 dispatchers the man, whom police later identified as Ryan Camacho, broke through her window. Camacho, 36, is charged with the murder of Welsh.

Welsh, who was a teacher at Ravenscroft School, died on Jan. 3.

“He is in the house right now,” Welsh said.

Welsh told the dispatcher that Camacho broke a window with a brick, went into her kitchen and got something out of the refrigerator.

"He hit me with a brick," Welsh told the dispatcher. "He hit me with a brick.

"I am on the floor in my bedroom."

The dispatcher then asked Welsh several times if she was still there. Raleigh police arrived some time afterward.

Camacho has a long history of crime and mental health illness. He is due in court again on Jan. 26.
