The crime rate in Raleigh is showing a decline compared to the same time frame in 2024, according to Raleigh Police Department’s quarterly crime data report presented by police chief Rico Boyce to the city council on Tuesday.
“This is a promising sign that reflects the efforts of our department and our partners in the community at large,” Boyce said.

The data Boyce presented to Raleigh City Council revealed homicides have held steady and a decrease in the number of cars stolen from 946 in 2024 to 793 in 2025.
The number of aggravated assaults has also decreased, although robberies did increase 19% from 2024.
With more people expected to be outdoors during the summer months, Raleigh police have rolled out a new summer safety plan to keep crime at a minimum.
“I want folks to enjoy themselves and not have to worry about if something’s going to happen to them,” Boyce said.
The plan will have three goals:
- Eliminate violent crime
- Remove dangerous illegal firearms
- Hold repeat offenders accountable
Boyce said the focus areas this summer include nightclubs, event spaces, transportation hubs, public parks and greenways.
Tracy Spruill, a Raleigh mom of two, commends the city’s safety efforts.
“We feel extremely safe,” Spruill said. “We’ve been to many cities over the course of having these kids and usually being one parent with two small kids, this is the safest I’ve felt in any city that we’ve lived in.”
The summer safety plan runs from June 1 to August 30.
