Raleigh man accused of spraying health workers with blood, exposing two to HIV

A Raleigh man is accused of spraying blood in the eyes of health care workers. 

Kameron Gilchrist, 25, faces two charges for assaulting emergency personnel. He's accused of exposing two employees to HIV. 

It is unclear whether the two employees contracted HIV through the incident on March 21, 2025. Authorities arrested Gilchrist on Sept. 11.

UNC Health Rex wouldn’t comment on specific patient or employee incidents. The hospital said violence against medical personnel is becoming more common.

According to the arrest warrant, Gilchrist was receiving a diabetic treatment when he allegedly sprayed blood in the eyes of two hospital employees. 

It’s unclear whether the blood sprayed was Gilchrist’s or not.

However, the arrest warrant says the two hospital employees were caused physical injuries including irritation and exposure to HIV.

UNC REX told WRAL News that protecting the health and safety of its employees is a top priority. The hospital said it would work closely with its own security teams and law enforcement to keep everyone safe and pursue charges when necessary.

WRAL News asked Raleigh police why it took six months to arrest and charge Gilchrist.

Raleigh police said Gilchrist was receiving medical and psychiatric treatment at the time of the incident so he could not be arrested then.

Authorities are holding Gilchrist on $25,000 bond. His next court date is scheduled for Dec. 8.
