A man is dead after a motorcycle crash in Raleigh on Wednesday.

Police said officers were called around 2:48 p.m. to reports of a crash between a car and a moped on Hammond Road.

Officers said 35-year-old Gabriela Ortiz was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling northbound on Hammond Road in the outside lane along with Michael Ray Capers, who was driving a moped.

Officers said the Ortiz failed to reduce speed and crashed into the back of the moped. Capers, 52, was ejected from the moped before being run over by Ortiz. He was later pronounced dead.

Police said Ortiz remained on the scene after the crash. Officers did not find any evidence of impairment. She is now being cited for Misdemeanor Death by Motor Vehicle, Failure to Reduce Speed, and No Operator’s License.

The investigation is still ongoing.
