Child in hospital from near drowning at Raleigh Beach

A child suffered life-threatening injuries Tuesday after being pulled from the water at Raleigh Beach.

First responders were called around 11:30 a.m. to the area of the Neuse River known as Raleigh Beach.

EMS, fire crews and water rescue teams responded. Witnesses said a girl who had been swimming went underwater and did not resurface. The girl had already been pulled from the river when first responders arrived.

Broadcastify radio traffic mentioned rescue teams performing CPR on a 12-year-old who was unresponsive.

At least four people drowned at Raleigh Beach, a popular spot for kayaking and tubing, in 2024. Following those events, the city of Raleigh implemented safety measures, including warning signs in English and Spanish and a gate to restrict vehicle access.
