Raleigh-based 321 Coffee will be sold at Costco stores across North Carolina

A signature roast blend from Raleigh-based 321 Coffee will be sold at all Costco stores in the Triangle and across North Carolina.

Starting April 26, Costco members will be able to purchase whole bean bags of 321 Coffee.

The product launch within one of the nation’s largest retail chains marks a major milestone for 321 Coffee, a company dedicated to workforce inclusion for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

“This is a huge opportunity for our growing, mission-driven business,” said Lindsay Wrege, Co-Founder of 321 Coffee. “This initial order from Costco marks our biggest step yet toward our goal of creating one million meaningful work hours for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.”

Costco shoppers can buy two-pound, whole bean bags of 321 Coffee's signature medium roast called “Elevate.”

321 Coffee describes it as a single origin coffee from Peru with a smooth, balanced profile. It’s available for a limited time trial.

Wrege said the goal is for the product to become a permanent, everyday item at Costco.

321 Coffee currently employs over 50 people across its roastery and coffee shops in Raleigh. The company started in 2017 to provide meaningful work opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Team members are involved in every step of the process from roasting the coffee, taking the orders and making the lattes. Founders say 321 Coffee demonstrates the value and capability of an inclusive workforce.

321 Coffee’s name refers to the three copies of chromosome 21 in individuals with Down Syndrome.
