Firefighters looking into explosion at Durham building, no one injured

Firefighters are looking into what they called an explosion on Monday at a Durham building.

According to the Durham Fire Department, firefighters responded to an automatic fire alarm around 5 p.m. at Kymera International on Weck Drive. While on their way, they received information about a possible explosion at the facility.

According to its website, Kymera International manufactures specialty metals and coatings.

Nearly 50 firefighters responded to the scene and extinguished the fire "within a short period of time."

Firefighters told WRAL News that no one was injured and all employees safely evacuated the building before they arrived to the scene.

Firefighters said they're working with the building's owners to complete final mitigation efforts and make sure the building is safe. The fire remains under investigation by the Durham Fire Department investigator.
